Oranjezicht is a historic residential suburb on the City Bowl slopes, home to the well-known Oranjezicht City Farm and streets of older, established homes. Gardens here have had decades to mature, and many properties have significant trees that predate the surrounding development.
We regularly assess older trees in Oranjezicht for structural condition given their age, balancing preservation where possible against genuine safety concerns. The suburb’s slope position means some properties get more rainfall and shelter than lower-lying parts of the City Bowl, supporting slightly larger tree cover.
Streets closer to the City Farm and surrounding green spaces tend to have some of the most established trees in the area, having grown undisturbed for generations.
