Wynberg is one of the older, more historic parts of the Southern Suburbs, with a military history, a well-known park in Maynardville, and streets of established Victorian and Edwardian-era homes. Gardens here often have large, older trees that have grown alongside the area’s history for well over a century.
The mix of historic properties and denser village-style streets means access can be tighter than in newer suburbs, and older trees sometimes need careful assessment for structural issues that build up over such a long lifespan, internal decay, old pruning wounds that never healed properly, or root systems that have outgrown a small stand. We look for all of this during the on-site visit rather than judging a tree on appearance alone.
Streets closer to Maynardville Park and the old military base area tend to have some of the oldest, most established trees in Wynberg, while newer infill developments further out have younger, more manageable growth.
