The City Bowl sits right under Table Mountain and Signal Hill, and it’s some of the oldest, most tightly built ground we work on in Cape Town. Narrow streets in Bo-Kaap and De Waterkant, steep slopes in Higgovale and Vredehoek, and heritage properties throughout Gardens and Oranjezicht all call for a different approach than a typical suburban garden.

Heritage trees and tighter rules

Older, established trees in the City Bowl are more likely to be protected or heritage-listed given the area’s history, and council approval requirements come up more often here than in newer suburbs. We flag this during the free on-site assessment, so you know where you stand before anything is booked in.

Small courtyards, narrow access

Many City Bowl properties, especially in Bo-Kaap, Schotsche Kloof and Tamboerskloof, have small courtyard gardens with narrow street access. That changes how we bring in equipment and remove material, careful, precise work matters more than speed in these tighter spaces.

Woodstock, Salt River and the Foreshore

Further from the mountain, Woodstock, Salt River and the Foreshore are more mixed-use and industrial, with fewer large private gardens but ongoing need for street tree maintenance and site clearance work as these areas continue to develop. The V&A Waterfront and University Estate bring their own landscaping needs too, from commercial grounds to campus greenery.
